It’s Blog Party Time...and Some Summertime Fun

Blog-Party-Logo 70%25

Hello blogger friends. Summertime is here – finally. The weather is consistently warm, the grass is green and the livin’ is easy...well, most of the time anyway.

Today, I’m participating in the June Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Party. The theme this month is Summertime Fun, and for me, once upon a time, summertime meant canning. Now, I don’t can myself, but my mom and my grandma did. I remember all the tables and counters in the house being filled with mason jars and the sink full of apricots and peaches, which gave the house a sweet smell. At that time we had apricot and peach trees on our property, and my mom and grandma took full advantage of the summertime bumper crop. We had canned apricots and peaches for years after this one particularly “fruitful” summer crop.

My grandmother and mom were products of the great depression and they both horded food in a way that most modern women would never think of. Had I gone hungry, like they did from time to time, I may have inherited their fear of depletion, and I thank God every day that I’ve never gone hungry a day in my life. But knowing this about them explained their desire to can fruit and vegetables every summer.

This is why I chose to go with a mason jar project for today’s Blog Party. It brings back lots of heartfelt memories of summertime from my childhood.

Jam-Packed

I used the Jar Fillers Jam Packed set to create my project today. I first used the Freebie Jam Packed Cut Files to die cut the shapes using my Cameo. Then stamped the images onto the cut shapes.

 Jam-Packed-CU

I layered my jar onto a die cut tag that I created using a Time Holtz Sizzix die. I added a small tab with the word smile hand written in it because when I think back on those warm summer days with boiling fruit filling the house with the sweet aroma, I can’t help but smile at those fond memories.

I hope you will join in the fun and create your own version of Summertime Fun. The Blog Party is open to players through the 18th, so check it out here. There will be a free stamp set given away to a randomly selected participant, so that should be even more incentive to play.

Thanks for popping in today to take a peek at my latest creation. My appreciation is “jam packed with love”. Until next time, stay crafty.

Lynn

Live each day with PURPOSE!

So true what you said about products of the depression, my Mom was and she cans and preserves and there is never a shortage of food in her home or our growing up. Lynn I love your delightful card, you know that set is on my wishlist.

Oh, Lynn what a great card...
love everything about this...
the papers and that gorgeous jar packed with love...
but especially the memories it holds!
Summer canning did not hold those memories for me...
I HATED summer canning and freezing!
Every night shelling peas, shucking corn, breaking beans...
and I can't even begin to talk about hay season...
the worst!!
Though I did learn to drive when I was old enough to reach the pedals and see over the steering wheel which was kind'a cool...the adults had to load the hay so we kids drove! :)
OK...I will confess...
I did love when the berries and watermelons would come in...
they were my favorite...
yum! :)

Oh, I love how you packed your jar with "jammy hearts"! Sweet card! I'm planning on going strawberry picking this weekend and then trying my hand at canning strawberry jam. We'll see how it goes.
