The Year of the Rabbit

Well, after two days of snowy respite from work, I’m going back today.  The roads are clear and while the temperatures are far below the temperature in my deep freeze, I’ll bundle up and do my part to help our household economy.

Today’s card is in honor of the Chinese New Year!  The Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival is a 15-day celebration that starts on the first day of the Chinese lunar month which happens to be today!  I wonder if they get 15 days off of work like we do for our New Year’s Day?  I doubt it, but it’s a nice thought.  Each New Year also brings about a new animal from the Chinese Zodiac. For example, 2010 was the "Year of the Tiger" and this year,is the "Year of the Rabbit".

The rabbit is considered to be a lucky sign. According to Chinese folklore, the Year of the Rabbit will be one in which to catch your breath and calm your nerves.  I think I could use a year like that, how about you?

The-Year-of-the-Rabbit

The layout design is one that I CASED from an older issue of CARDS, or Paper Crafts Magazine or one of the other many magazines I read each month.  Sorry I can’t remember which magazine, or the creator of the original design.

The rabbit image is from the Hoppy Anna Mae set from Our Craft Lounge.  I stamped him 3 times, because 3 is one of my lucky numbers.  I masked off each rabbit before stamping the next.  I colored him lightly with Copic Markers.

The letters are from Cosmo Cricket.  I love these little sticker letters for their ease of use and the flexibility.  I also was able to use some older rub-on’s that I had in my stash (yeah!) and applied those to the bottom of my card.

So, Happy Chinese New Year to you all, and may 2011 bring you much luck, and I hope it is the most relaxing year EVER for all of us.
