One Week Out…

Are you ready?  It’s coming and it’s only one week away – yes, Father’s Day.  The day when we show dad how much we love and appreciate all that he does for the family.  Some dads are stern, some are fun loving, some are serious, some are big jokesters.  Whatever the type of dad we have or had, we love them and they deserve to know it.

My dad was big and burly, fun loving and rarely serious – which was just fine with me.  I loved that he enjoyed a good joke and had the ability to “take” just as good as he “gave”. Unfortunately for me, I can only show my love for my dad through my memories of him, but I’m so lucky to have lots of wonderful times to look back on with love and admiration.

Now,  I honor my father-in-law who is so different from my own dad.  He’s serious with a calculating mind, but I love him for the fantastic job he did raising my husband – brining up a son who loves his family is kind to kids and animals and loves his wife more than she deserves sometimes.  For that alone, he deserves my respect.

Show-the-WayMy father-in-law spent many, many summers in Florida so he love the ocean and all things nautical, so I thought that he would appreciate this card, using images from Gina K Designs Special Fathers. The sentiment is so perfect for this image and so true in this case.

Show-the-Way-ShellI took a piece of Onyx Black cardstock and wrapped a piece of Nautical Netting as a mat for the image and added a semi-circle cut from an ancient piece of patterned paper from my stash to mimic the setting sun in the focal image.

The embellishment was created by gluing a piece of rope twine into a cinnamon roll pattern and topped it off with a tiny shell that I brought back from Jamaica many years ago.  I felt this type of embellishment was a good substitute for a pretty bow or girly flower.

You have really made my day by taking the time to visit.  I feel that I apologize for my picture quality.  Given that I’m trying to work inside a shoebox (not really, but it just seems that way) and I’ve yet to find an place to put my light studio where I have space for its lights, I’m really struggling to get a decent photo.  Please bear with me!

Enjoy your Sunday!

I have the hardest time with masculine cards, but you have outdone yourself. It was great reading your story about your dad too. I am sure he was a wonderful man! Your fil will enjoy this for sure.
