I’m told that scrapbooking is like riding a bike. Once you get started, you’ll always be able to do it. Well, my recent experience with putting a layout together has been full of bumps, falls and wobbles. It has been, what seems to be, forever since I have put together a two page layout, and I could really feel the unsteadiness as I muddled through the design process.
My recent trip to visit my daughter in Colorado Springs produced tons of images, and while I don’t intend to scrap them all, there are a few that really deserve special treatment along with a bit of story telling. This dual 12 X 12 layout shows a bit of the beauty Tina and I enjoyed while visiting The Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
My design has a few principals that I picked up from watching Paperclipping.com videos. One has to do with anchoring lines. As you can see, I used 1/4” strips of patterned paper to create the anchoring lines for my photos and journaling tag. As Noell from Paperclipping explains, anchoring lines help “anchor” items to the page so that they don’t appear to just float on the page. The patterned paper that I used also help give a continuity For my title, I used rows of Zva Creative Crystals in the same colors as the Zva Creative Flourishes used in each corner.
The other principal had to do with visual triangles. The visual triangles I have are obviously the photographs, but I’ve also created other triangles with the title and the two corner flourishes. There is a third triangle using the two black rub-on texts and the circle embellishment at the bottom of the journaling block. Triads are, as you know, visually appealing.
So while I am really rusty at scrapping, I think that by practicing my scrapping hobby, it will all come back to me. Above all, I’ve put pictures to paper and documented a fun memory that my daughter and I shared.
Basement Update: As of the writing of this post, most all of the framing is up. Next week the plumber and the electrician will be paying us a visit – causing major mess not only in the basement but upstairs as well. UGH.
Have a fantastically happy Friday and a wonderful weekend. I’m working in the Rubbernecker Booth during the Gateway Rubber Stamp Getaway in Collinsville, Illinois both Saturday and Sunday. If you are attending the event, please be sure to stop by and say HI!

WOW Lynn your page is absolutely a beauty, I LOVE the flourishes you added and GREAT colors with your pictures!!! JUST BEAUTIFUL!
Great layout Lynn! Good luck with getting back to scrapping. In February a friend challenged me to do one layout a day for a month. It was a LOT of work but I could really see the progression and I'm thrilled to be scrapbooking again as well as card making.
Thanks so much for explaining the design principles you used. It helps so much in my learning.
Colorado Springs is one of my favorite places. Glad you enjoyed it. Can never get enough of the Garden of the Gods.
Beautiful page, Lynn! So glad you have such nice memories. C.Springs is so beautiful. Our DS attended and graduated from the Air Force Academy, so we spent a lot of time on the highway between here and there! Hope you scrap some more pages!!! Hugs...
Wonderful layout! I'm always intimidated to do double pages myself. It's great to see another Paperclipping member's work and how they apply the principles. yay for the festival!
