TESC 101 - Dragonfly Card Drive

DragonflyCardDriveGraphic

Today is a special edition of the Friday Taylored Expression Sketch Challenge.  Taylor is kicking off a card drive today to benefit the Neo-natal Unit at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls SD.  Taylor has both a friend and a sister-in-law who work as labor and delivery nurses at SMC where they use the dragonfly as a symbol of hope for families who have lost a child during delivery or in the early stages of life and they have requested hand-made cards featuring dragonfly images.  This was one of the driving forces behind the design of Discover Your Wings.

And now we need your help.  Would you consider making and donating some cards that feature a dragonfly?  You may use stamps from any company - they do not need to be from TE.  As a thank you for participating Taylor will enter your name into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to the TE Store.  Here are the details:

  • Create cards (1 or as many as you'd like) that feature a dragonfly image (from ANY stamp company.) Sentiments can be things such as "thinking of you" and  inspirational quotes or they can be blank.
  • If your cards are standard A2 size (4.25" x 5.5") Taylored Expressions will provide the envelopes.  If your cards are any other size then we ask that you please send a blank envelope along with each card donation.
  • The more entries we receive, the more prizes there will be.  Taylored Expressions will give away 1 - $50 Gift Certificate for every 50 cards we receive.  So - there will be one GC given if we receive 99 cards or less. For 100 - 149 we will give 2 gift certificates, for 150 - 199 there will be 3 gift certificates and so on.
  • You will be entered into the drawing once for EACH card you send in with no limit.  The more entries, the better your chance to win.
  • Please visit Taylor’s blog for the address where you may send your donated cards.
  • Cards must be received no later than March 25th.

What a great cause and I hope you will join us in this loving, caring and heartfelt project.

TESC101sketch

For this week’s sketch challenge, Taylor provided us with this sketch which leave plenty of opportunity to bring in your own creativity into your card.

TESC101 Full

Using wonderful papers from Taylored Expressions’ Key Ingredient kit, I used a few simple additions of rounded corners, fancy border punch and 1/8” ribbon along with a touch of bling to reflect the beautiful elegance of these lovely creatures.

I once heard a story about a group of pond bugs that lived beneath the pond’s surface.  The pond bugs saw that on occasion, one from their little group would climb the water reeds, leaving the pond and would disappear never to be seen again.  This really piqued the curiosity of the pond bugs and so they all agreed that the next time one of them climbed outside the safety of their pond that they would return and satisfy the curiosity of the group and explain where the others had gone.

Well the day came when one of the little bugs did climb the reeds to the surface, and this feat proved to be a tiresome act, and as he climbed to the warm sunny surface, the fatigue got the best of him and he fell asleep.  Upon awaking he discovered that he had been transformed and now had the most stunning gossamer wings that would take him high above the pond.  He was very impressed with his new ability and he played and enjoyed this new skill until he suddenly remembered his agreement with the rest of his pond buddies.  He tried to return to his friends to show them what had happened to him, but he couldn’t get beneath the pond’s surface…his body had been transformed into one that was no longer suited for life beneath the water’s surface.

After hearing this little story, it became quit clear to me why the image of the dragonfly would be a symbol of healing for those hurting from the loss of a child – a thing that would be very difficult to understand and come to terms with.  God bless these wonderful people who try to ease the suffering by showing compassion to those suffering from such a loss.

I hope that you are inspired to create your own dragonfly card to donate to the cause.  If you are in need of a little more inspiration, please stop by the rest of the Taylored Expressions Sketch Crew and see their interpretation of this week’s sketch.
