Lil’ Love Birds – Long Post (for me)

This has been quite a, exhausting, eye-opening, fun, expensive, fun, busy and did I tell you how much fun I'm having? That's CHA all over!  It's about burning the candle at both ends for a few days, getting up early, staying out late, daily walking the equivalent distance from earth to the moon, talking more in 4 days than I normally talk in 4 months, making long overdue connections and reconnecting with those whom I have missed seeing.  It's a wonderful time that I look forward to with great anticipation.

This particular CHA contained a little more drama than I would have liked, but sometimes things happen to put things into perspective.  I’m not really sure what lesson I’m supposed to learn but I’m sure at some point I’ll figure it out.  For about 2 hours during the show my rolling tote that contained some fun things from CHA, my purse, ID, credit cards, cash and my planner went missing.  I say missing because it was eventually recovered but after two hours of shear panic, running through the convention hall with security, filing a police report, the stress of cancelling my debit and credit cards and a real test of the power of my deodorant, I received a phone call from a fellow DT member, Kim Burmeister with the news that she had found my tote.

What I think may have happened is that someone just grabbed a handle behind them without looking to see if it was THEIR tote and then when they realized what had happened, they just dropped it. I had sat down at a table to rest my aching feet while others were chatting and as I got up from the table and I looked around for my tote I noticed it was gone. In the end nothing was missing and with the exception of the absence of working credit cards, I was relieved.

During all this time Susanna Boyd was on the phone to literally everyone in the convention hall alerting them to what had transpired in addition to assisting me from completely wigging out, providing awesome moral support.   Two VERY lovely crafters really renewed my faith in humanity and confirmed my belief that crafters are the most caring and generous individuals on the planet.  Traci McLaughlin a/k/a Aunttoadie12 on SCS, was walking the convention floor with Kitchen Sink Stamps owner, Maria Colosimo and happened  upon my hysteria.  Traci walked over to me and handed me $20.  That did it…I bawled like a baby at the realization that someone I didn’t even know could have the compassion to give from the goodness of their heart.  If you are reading this Traci – I will never forget your kindness.  You’re a real treasure!!!

Other than the missing tote ordeal, my trip was a fantastic experience and I’m left with lots of fond memories of seeing old friends and making new ones.  To me, CHA is so much more than just looking at new product, although there was plenty of that.  CHA is about making connections and strengthening relationship that are forged online, but cemented with friendship and the common love for our passion of papercrafting.

While I had the best intentions of posting this project while in California, the WiFi wasn’t exactly my friend and I had some difficulty getting things to work so I eventually gave up and thought I would just wait until I got home.

Even with the flurry of activity involved with getting ready to depart for this trip, I was able to squeeze in just a little studio time before I left last Saturday and created this tweet little Valentine card. Using a masking technique I was able to use the little caged birds image from Taylored Expressions' Wings of Joy I stamped the image and shaded a bit with Copic markers.  The sentiment is from another set from TE - Love is Sweet.

The paper I used is from the Sugar Rush series from Basic Grey that has lots of lovey-dovey type words, so in carrying on with the hearts and love theme, I used a hearts border punch to decorate the top of my base layer. To balance out the image in the upper left corner, I added a little bit of lace and Zva Creative flowers in the lower right corner.

Hope this post finds you having a great time reading all the news coming out of the blog posts and company updates from CHA.  I’m working on trying to get some photos ready for posting to facebook.

Yowser, Lynn, when did all this happen? What stress! The only thing worse would have been losing your kid for that long. I'm so glad it all had a happy ending!
