Nearly 5 years ago I became a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. I didn't know anything about stamping, and had only created one project when I signed up, but I instantly knew I had a passion for this hobby.
I tried to make it a business, but I quickly realized that I loved playing much more than I did working at the business. I called myself a hobby demonstrator and that meant that I was my very best customer. Month after month I purchased enough goods to maintain my minimums...and then something happened. A TON of new companies came into my view. It seemed like every day there were more and more stamp companies who had products and stamps that I truly adored. I bought from them in addition to keeping up my minimums, but when I realized how much I was spending, I knew that I couldn't keep up with spending half my paycheck for very long.
This month I officially dropped my SU! demonstrator-ship and have become just a customer...again. The reason I drone on and on about this is because part of the elements on this card are part of my first purchase as a SU! customer in five years.

Using Copper Encore ink, I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of cardstock that I die cut with my Labels Four Nestabilities and after a dusting of Copper embossing powder and heat embossing, I added a little touch of Copper Metallic Rub-on Cream to the edges to soften them up a bit.
For my embellishment, I wrapped several inches of Copper cording, which was tied in the center, and placed it behind a wonderful copper button. A few little brads finished off the project.

I stamped my Medallion onto a piece of Winterberry patterned paper that I bought from Susana's Custom Art and Card Design, using Aged Mahogany Distress Ink. Because this ink stays wet a little longer than most dye inks, I immediately added some Aged Mahogany Distressed Embossing Powder and heat the image.
So as you can see, I'm no longer just about SU!, but incorporate many companies into one project. Thanks for letting me blather on and on...and still reading this post. hehe
Have a fantastic Wednesday.

beautiful job!
beautiful card! Love the colours! very stylish!
Beautiful Lynn!! I love your colors, the copper accents, and your use of the medallion!!
My sister is a demo and I see how it has taken her freedom away from stamping for the same reasons. While she has been encouraging me to become a demo, I really enjoy my freedom which I wouldn't have if I had to make monthly quotas. Congrats girl on your freedom!!
Welcome to the Ex-Demo Club! :)
Lovely card Lynn! I've been debating this same issue for awhile now. I'm my own beat customer too. I just can't quite jump off the bridge yet!
so pretty love it

Wow! this card is beautiful. Sorry you are no longer a demo, I let go of mine a few years ago for the same reason.
Such a stunning card. I really love that SU Medallion stamp.
Lynn, this is a beautiful card! Can't wait to see the many more projects that you will create now that you have more time! I am sure that you have a list of things that you have been wanting to do,but just haven't had the time for....your projects are always beautiful and give me so much inspiration!
Thank you for sharing your story and your artwork!
I can't believe it took you this long to give up SU! I was a demonstrator for several years, and I had some customers, but was definitely my best customer. Then the same thing happened - there were just too many new companies out there w/ stuff I loved - and was really enticed by anyone who offered FREE SHIPPING!
Love your stuff - thanks for sharing that story.
Gorgeous card! Beautiful post! Blessings to you!
Beautiful! I've gotta get my medallion stamp out!
Gorgeous, Lynn! Wow! So elegant.
This is beautiful Lynn, I think I am the only person alive to not have that medallion stamp. Gonna have to fix that. Love what you did with the copper wire. Good luck as a customer. Hopefully you have a great demonstrator that will keep you in the loop
