A Stitch in Time

Well, here we are - the last day of 2008. Where did it go? I can't believe that it's time to usher in a new year, and what a year it has been.

I would say that this is the last card that I'd create in 2008, but then again, you never know when inspiration will hit and since I'm still on vacation, with plenty of crafting time at my disposal...who knows.

I was checking out blogs & forums this morning and saw Gina K's challenge for today. Not only did Gina throw down a fabulous challenge, but she is offering a SPECTACULAR blog candy opportunity. Check out all the details HERE.

It's always interesting when I don't use any stamps or ink on a card because I almost feel like I'm cheating by posting this on a stamping blog or forum...but I just knew when I saw Gina's sample that it was the perfect opportunity for me to use a new book that I got for Christmas, Paper Quilts. I selected a pattern that was somewhat easy for this beginning paper quilter. I have always loved quilts. The time, effort and love that went into my Grandmother's hand quilted patchwork quilts give me such joy to view and just thinking of them brings back so many wonderful memories of "Grandma".

There isn't a lot of stitch on this card - just the border of my piece, but it still fits the challenge requirements. :)

Thanks so much for peekin' in today. I wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year!

TLC201 Fun Funky Fold

Today's Try a New Technique on Splitcoast was to create a Fun Funky Fold card. This card is folded somewhat like a squash book except that it was modified for a card. For a detailed tutorial on how to do this fold, CLICK HERE.

For this project I used one of Gina K's sets, Heartfelt Hits 1. I thought it to be the perfect set for a New Year's greeting.

This shows how the card looks when opened.

For the front image I used the clinking wine (or a really big champagne) glasses, which I just stamped in black, but added "bubbly" in the glasses with my Spica glitter pen and what New Year's outfit is complete without pretty bracelets! These are just Rhinestone Stickers that I bought at Michael's.

The outside sentiment and inside was just something that I printed out on my PC since I didn't have just the right sentiment to convey what I wanted to say.

I hope you will give this fun, funky fold a whirl. It's really easy to do, once you see my tutorial.

Do you have big New Year's plans? At the writing of this post, I have no plans at all, but between now and the 31st, who know. Whatever you do, be safe, have fun, and I wish you all a very happy, healthy, and crafty New Year! Welcome 2009!

Supplies: Stamps: Heartfelt Hits 1 (Gina K Designs); Papers: Gypsy Paisley Eggplant Patterned Paper (Daisy D's), Basic Black, Lavender Moon (PTI); Inks: Palette Noir Black; Other Stuff: Threading Water Border Punch, Labels Trio (Spellbinders), Large Scallop Square Nestabilities, Rhinestone Stickers (Michael's), Black Grosgrain Ribbon (SU!)

A Sketch and a Flower

Happy Saturday to you all. I hope that you had a fantastic Christmas holiday. Today I'm posting this from a hotel as I'm visiting my son and his family out of state, but I'm happy to bring you a sketch challenge. I'm hostessing the Sketch Challenge today on Paper Craft Planet and I'd love it if you wanted to play along too.

Here is the sketch. This card is a 4 X 8" and will fit into a business sized envelope. You're free to flip or turn the sketch to the best orientation for your particular project. It doesn't have to be a card, it can be a scrapbook page too if you are so inclined.

Here is my sample card for this project. I think that I'm the last person on the planet to get this stamp set, but I figured that since I just got it, I'd better use it.

For my medallion, I layered three pieces with foam tape to give it some dimension. The hardest part was cutting out that tiny little flower! :)
Well, that's it for today. We are packing up and getting ready for the 5 hour drive home and while it's always great visiting family, there's really no place like home.
Thanks for stopping in today.
SUPPLIES: STAMPS: Boho Backgrounds, Upsy Daisy, Borders & Corner Circles - PTI; PAPERS: Ripe Avocado, Ocean Tides, Stamper's Select White, Polka Dot Parade Patterned Paper (PTI); INK: Ripe Avocado, Ocean Tides; ACCESSORIES: Large Circle Nestabilities, 1-1/2 Circle Punch, Ripe Avocado Swiss Dot Satin Ribbon 5/8", Stampin' Dimensionals.

TLC200 Faux Silk with a Pop

Today's Technique on Splitcoast is called Faux Silk with a Pop. It's a new twist on an older technique. I ran across this technique from Ann Clemmer a/k/a You Betcha!. Ann's blog Stamper.Dog has been a source of fantastic video tutorials done in an entertaining way that keeps me coming back for more time and time again. To view Ann's video tutorial on this great technique, CLICK HERE.

I know that every time I post another Christmas card, I say that it's my last for the season...lol. I think I should stop saying that because I continue to make a lier out of myself time and time again. HA!

This type of card is so easy, once you see Ann's video I think that you will agree that it's a fast and easy way to get a great look.

I had the opportunity to play around with some new papers that I recently received from Paper Temptress. The shade I used in this card is called Spearmint - a fabulous color for this cool, frosty card.

Here is a close up view of the finished look of the technique. I hope you think it is as cool of a look as I do.

This may be my last post until after Christmas, so I'd like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, filled with all the blessings that this joyous holiday brings. If you are lucky enough to have your family with you to celebrate, please let them know how much they mean to you...not only at Christmas, but every day of the year.

Hugs to all of you my friends!

Stuff I Used: Stamps: Jolly Snowman (Stamps Happen Inc), Snowfall (PTI); Papers: Spearmint (Paper Temptress), Basic Black, Stamper's Select White; Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black; Other Stuff: Ribbon from Ribbon House, Wrapping Tissue Paper, Labels Trio dies (Spellbinders), Stampin' Dimensionals.

Which Reindeer is this again?

I spied this photo this morning on the net, and after looking at it for a minute, I just started chuckling....which reindeer is this again? BWAHAHA.

Ok, back to the cookie baking!

Meet me Under the Moostletoe

For the past two weeks, every time I post a Christmas card, I think it will be my last of the season, and then another challenge comes along that motivates me to do another one! I guess I could look at it as having a jump on next year's stash of cards...lol

I created this card (remember, you can click on the image for a closer look) for today's Paper Craft Planet's Sketch Challenge. Jen Tapler is the hostess this week, and she has designed a creative and versatile sketch for us to play with. If you would like to play along - just CLICK HERE for all the details.

The images I used for today's card are some I have had for months and this is the first time they have seen ink. (hangs head in shame) I was so happy to have a chance to break them out because I just love this dorky looking moose, and the sentiment is perfect. "Meet me under the Moostletoe"...HA! Too bad my DH has already seen the card, otherwise I would give it to him for Christmas. *wink*

I wanted to deck out my Chrismoose so I used a small ornament stamp from Amuse, cut it out and adhered it to look as thought it was hanging from his antler. Another special touch I added was the Fun Flock that I added to the moose's chest. Fun, fuzzy and festive.

Today marks my first official day of my two weeks of vacation, so first thing on my agenda is to get the presents wrapped that are sitting naked on my dining room table, and then I can begin my marathon cookie baking. Only 5 days left before the big day. Are you ready?

Stuff I Used: Stamps: Sam Moose & Moose Phrase set (Rubbernecker Stamps), Ornament (Amuse), Papers: Kraft (PTI), Bohemia Designer Paper (My Mind's Eye), Stamper's Select White, Chocolate Chip; Inks: Chocolate Chip; Other Stuff: Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol, Red Copic Marker, Inkssentials White Opaque Pen, Singer Sewing Machine for stitching, Green Flannel Ribbon from ribbon stash box, Stampin' Dimensionals, White Fun Flock, Two Way Glue.

It's a Bella DIVA!

Yes - it's my second post today! I don't normally post twice in one day, unless I have something extra special to share, and today I'm going to give you a link to a free gift! Yep, free downloadable papers just waiting for you. Rebecca Oehlers a/k/a Hemidemisemiquaver (I always have to check the spelling on this blog site...lol)

Since most of my posts have been geared towards Christmas, I thought I would jump ahead to New Year's. Yes, it's only a couple of weeks away. So I brought out my Cosmobella, who matched so nicely with one of the papers that Becky provided.

I colored this sweet Bella with my Copic Markers along with hints of my Prismacolor Pencils for special areas. The "cheers' sentiment and martini charm are also from Stamping Bella. The sentiment with the champagne bottle was one I picked up at the $1 Michael's bin.

To get your own download of Becky's Awesome Demi Design papers for the holidays, just CLICK HERE. She has three varieties of papers with this set of her Demi Designs, and as you will see, her other Demi Design papers are there as well for your downloading pleasure. Just download and print. Easy peasy.

Well, that does it for me today. Now bring on vacation! :)

Stuff I Used: Stamps: Cosmobella & Cheers (Stamping Bella), New Year's (Hampton Art); Papers: Stampers Select White, Green Galore, Christmas Party (free download from Becky); Inks: Versafine Onyx Black; Other Stuff: Copic Markers RV29 and G14, Spica Glitter Pen, Silver Prismacolor Pencil blended with Gamsol, Rhinestone Stickers (Michael's), Large Pinking Circle and Small Circle Nestabilities.

BC78 Christmas of a Different Color

I bring you good tidings of great joy! (for me at least) The day that I have been waiting for the entire year has at last arrived...yes VACATION for me beings today! HA! Working all year without anything more than extended weekends off has been tedious for me and I have awaiting this time with great anticipation...and it's finally here. Only 8 more short hours and I won't be going back to work until next year!

Another source of great joy is my weekly participation in the Blogger's Challenge group. This week our challenge was to create a Christmas card using non-traditional colors. I don't normally think of Christmas when I see pink and brown (although I do love this combination), so I went with it.

The sentiment I used was inspired by a little ceramic sign that I bring out every Christmas and hang as a reminder that "good" is a relative term. HA! I printed the sentiment out on my PC onto the cardstock, and then using my Stamp-a-ma-jig, I aligned my Lined Paper background stamp to create the look of a little note one might send to the jolly man with the beard.

I used my Scalloped Envelope BIGZ die to make the little envelope adding a little snowflake and a sweet little felt heart to show Santa that my heart was in the right place. *grin*.

Thank you for checking in today. I know this is a busy time for everyone, and I appreciate your time.

Stuff I Used: Stamps: Lined Paper (CHF), Perfect Presentations; Papers: Pretty in Pink, Close to Cocoa, Berry Bliss Double Sided Designer Paper; Inks: Versafine Onxy Black; Other Stuff: Alpine Snowflake Punch (MS), Treading Water Punch (Fiskars), Scallop Envelope BIGZ die (SU!), Ribbon from scrap box, Boutique Brads (Doodlebug Designs) Stamp-a-ma-jig

TLC199 Tag Punch Starburst

Today on SCS I brought a technique to the masses using the small and large tag punch to create a fabulously interesting starburst that will add brilliance to just about any card. Whether it's a holiday card or any other type of card, these starburst are a bright-shining addition. Come play along with the challenge - you can find it HERE.

The sample I used for this project today, was originally posted HERE. At the time I created this card, I fell in love with these starbursts, and I knew the TLC group would love them too. Why not try one of your own? You can find the instructions by visiting the creator's post of her step-by-step instructions HERE. Shadow Mill is one creative lady who is a great source of inspiration to me.

I'm happy to report that I was able to mark a couple of things off of my to-do list this weekend. I finished addressing and mailed my Christmas cards today. (YIPPEE) And, I finished packing up my gift box of presents to be mailed to my Daughter. She is spending her first Christmas far away from home, making it impossible to spend the holidays with family. I know that this will be difficult for her, as it was for me the first time I spent Christmas alone. There are many people who don't have family this holiday season, and I hope that you, like I, will keep them in your prayers for peace and happiness during this blessed season.

5 more days of work for me and then I'm off work until next year. I haven't had this much time off between Christmas and New Year's since I left the aircraft industry. I'm so looking forward it it! (can you feel my excitement?) Thanks so much for taking the time out of your busy schedules to look in on my blog today. I know that this time of year is excruciatingly busy for all of us, and I appreciate you sharing your precious time with me.

Thank U

Man, oh man, am I under some stress. It's all self-induced, of course, but I just have so many things to do, and there just aren't enough hours in the day. I really do love the holidays, but the pressure to "do" for everyone, and attend to all the little details can really put a drain on me, my time, my patience and my energy. I'm really not complaining because I know that every one of you are probably under the same kind of pressure. I figured if anyone could sympathize, it would be you. :)

But all things considered, I was still able to squeeze out this card for today's Sketch Challenge on the Paper Craft Planet. It's amazing how much crafting you can get done at 4:30 in the morning...lol. If you would like to play along, you can find the details HERE. Adela is our hostess this week, and she has come up with a great sketch that is suitable for a wide range of applications...even Christmas cards (in case you are still making them). To see Adela's sample, just click HERE. It's really quite amazing how she created this wonderfully winged angel.
Ok, I'm off to go address some more Christmas cards and get a package ready to go postal on Monday. What's on your to-do list today? Have you been able to cross off an item or two? It seems that I cross one item off, and then have two more to add to it. Such is life and the fun of the holidays. Have a fantastic Saturday and a wonderful weekend!
Stuff I used: Stamps: Inspired by Nature, True Friend Papers: Really Rust, Ruby Red, Chocolate Chip, Apricot Appeal, Boho Floral (Daisy D's) Inks: Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Always Artichoke Accessories: Stampin' Dimensionals, 1-3/8" Circle Punch

A Blogger's Challenge Ornament (BC77)

Hello and welcome to Friday and another edition of the Blogger's Challenge. Our challenge this week was to create an ornament or Christmas decoration, and since I had some snowflake chipboard left over from last year, I decided to put some of it to good use.

I laid the snowflake onto a piece of patterned paper from a sheet of Ski Slope Designer Paper (SU!) and traced the outline, then cut out and stamped some swirl images from the Silent Night set from PTI and then embossed the images with white embossing powder. I then adhered the paper to the chipboard flake using PVA glue (my favorite to use with paper and chipboard). I used a silver metallic pen and highlighted the edges. I added a few pieces of bling to the flake as well as combined some Baja Breeze ribbon and white organza ribbon behind the button that I had in my stash. Hidden behind the ribbon and button is a felt snowflake on which the ribbon is attached. I also used a few little jingle bells to hang from the end, just for fun. I think I'll use this as an embellishment on a gift. Won't it make a fun topper to a present?

AND NOW LOOK AT THIS!

I have another item I want to share with you today, and it's this FANTASTIC Christmas card that I received from my friend, Claire Brennan, way over in Ireland. I just love Claire's ribbon technique that she created and has so artfully designed in this card. I am looking for a frame to put this great card into so that I can use it as a Christmas decoration in the years to come. Thank you so much Claire for such a wonderful gift and my heart will be warmed every time I look at it and am reminded of how crafting friendships span the oceans, even though we cannot.

Just look at the detail she has in this ribbon Christmas tree. AMAZING!
Well, that's it for another Blogger's Challenge Friday. It's now less that two weeks before Christmas and while my list of things to do hasn't gotten much shorter, the time in which to get those items checked off my list has, so I'd better get busy.
Until next time, have a wonderfully blessed day!

Light up the Night - Quick & Easy

Hello all! Monday again...sigh. Mondays are often pretty blah for me, as I have to crawl out of a nice warm cozy bed and head out into the freezing cold temperatures to go to work. But today's post will put a little warmth into the room.

Today's project on the Splitcoast Technique Lover's Challenge is to created a Vellum Votive Shade using a sheet of vellum, a punch or two (stamps if you like), some sticky tape, a wine glass, and either a tealight candle, or my favorite, a battery operated tealight.

This project is quick and super easy, and a fantastic way to add a little something extra to a room, or your Christmas table.

I used the punched out snowflakes from the upper portion of the shade, ran them through my Xyron sticker maker, and applied snowflake glitter and then ran them through the Xyron again to put adhesive on the backs and just placed them where I wanted them on the shade. I then attached some trim that I picked up at Hancock Fabrics and a little flower ribbon trim and that was it.
I hope you will give these a try...they are so very quick and simple. To get a copy of the template for this shade, please visit the Technique Lover's Challenge on Splitcoast. The instructions can be found HERE.
Thanks for popping in today...gotta run.

A Little Cheer to You!

Here's a little card that I did for the Saturday Sketch Challenge on the Paper Craft Planet. The hostess for this week's challenge is Melanie Muenchinger. Melanie is an amazing papercrafter and she has really created a fun and versatile sketch. Check out her thread HERE.

Every now and then you need a card to let someone know you are proud of them, or just to acknowledge a special event in their life, and this card fits the bill.

I stamped three of the drink images and then used a circle punch to punch out the portions of the images. I colored them with Copic markers, and then to give the illusion of liquid, I applied Glossy Accents to the drinks and let dry.

I hope you will check out the sketch challenge, and perhaps squeeze out a little time to create a card. I'm holding a Stamp-a-Stack for a neighbor of mine today, so I'm getting all packed up, which is the real challenge for me when I hold one of these events. When you are at home crafting, you don't realize just how many supplies you use to create cards...until you have to pack up every last item needed for the card! I need a U-Haul truck...HA!
I hope you all have a fabulous Saturday!

Supplies:
Stamps: Cheers to You
Paper: Stamper's Select White, Spring Moss, Ripe Avocado, Polka Dot Basics (All PTI)
Inks: Archival Ink-Jet Black, Ripe Avocado
Accessories: 1-1/4", 1-3/8 Circle Punches, Ripe Avocado Stain Luxe ribbon, Copic Markers, Glossy Accents

BC76 Color Challenge

Whoohoo...I made it to another Friday. 10 days of work and counting until vacation! Unfortunately, we aren't going anywhere on our vacation, except that we won't be going to work, and sometimes, that's the best vacation one can ask for. :)

I also made it to another Blogger's Challenge. I didn't make it last week because of all of the hoopla over Thanksgiving, but I'm back, although I'm finding that with all of things to do with Christmas fast approaching, my mojo has taken a bit of a vacation itself. I'm just not feeling it, and that's OK...I know that after a little time off, my mojo will be back.

Today's blogger's challenge was to create a card using the colors of Bashful Blue, Close to Cocoa, Tangerine Tango, and Kiwi Kiss. So the first thing one does when their mojo is missing, it run to the patterned paper that, lucky for me, contained ALL the colors I needed for this challenge.

I also incorporated today's card into the Papertrey Ink sketch challenge for this week. My good buddy and fellow St. Louisian, Mary, is the hostess this week, and so, without the help of my mojo, I squeezed in a 2fer. Two challenges for the price of one card. (is that cheating?)

My snowflake trio was punched and then I applied some Versamark Dazzel onto the punched pieces to give them a shimmery effect. If you look really closely, you might be able to see it, although we all know how difficult it is to get a good picture of sparkle. *wink*
The card below was my first attempt at this color challenge. I'm not liking it much, but since I did finish it, I though I would swallow my pride and post it anyway. This is a blog that contains the good and the not-so-good creations - and so, there you have it.
Well, after work tonight I'm doing a wee bit of Christmas shopping, which I'm not really fond of...fighting the crowds, searching for just the right thing - it all seems to stress me out. I much prefer to shop with less pressure to please, but it's that time of year, so I'll be right there with the hundreds of other shoppers looking for the "perfect gift". Wish me luck!
Thanks for peeking in today. It really does my heart good to know that you stop by for a look. Have a spectacular Friday!

Have a Hippy Birthday

I hope you all appreciate a little break from all of the Christmas cards and gift items and will take a look at the little birthday card that I created. I recently received some of the most adorable little zoo animals, one of which is Harriet the Hippo from
PaperWorks Co. Harriet is part of the Safari Friends collection and she just makes me grin seeing that cute little bluebird sitting atop her head!

I sort of when polka-dot wild with this card, carrying the theme from the patterned paper to the stamped circles around Harriet and even onto the circled sentiment. For a little fun I added a die cut star with a paper flower and hardware to anchor the sentiment.

I'm not sure who will get this Hippy Birthday card, but hopefully whoever does received it will enjoy the fun of it all.

Thanks ladies for checking in today. As time gets closer and closer to Christmas, and my deadlines to complete gifts draws near, I'm not sure how much crafting I'll actually get done, but I know that you all understand, and are probably in the same frenzy of activity.

Until next time...have a Hippy DAY!

Stuff I Used: Stamps: Harriet the Hippo (Paperworks Co.), Word Search Background Stamp (on sentiment), Polka Dot Basics (PTI); Papers: Very Vanilla, Silver Metallic, Groovy Guava, Carbon Designer Paper; Inks: Basic Gray, Archival Ink-Jet Black; Other Stuff: Large Scallop and Large Circle Nestabilities, Filigree Brads, 1/4" circle punch, Spring Flower Bouquet punch, Cuttlebug Nesting Stars die, 5 Petal Punch, Groovy Guava Double Stitched Grosgrain, image colored with Copic markers.

The Gift of Cards

Ti's the season for working on gift giving ideas and projects. Here is a gift of 6 note cards and envelopes along with a nice box to hold them. I got the project idea and box dimensions from Meredith Socha of Random thoughts of a Confessed Stamp-A-Holic. I saw her project on the Paper Craft Planet and knew that it would make a perfect little gift for someone on my Christmas list who shall remain nameless, just in case she is peeking in today.

I created the box using some Real Red cardstock and adding a touch of Ski Slope Designer Paper punched with my Martha Stewart Lacy Border punch, and all tied up with a piece of wide red organza ribbon. I dug out my circle scallop punches (instead of my Nestabilities this time) and using my Borders & Corner-Circles set from PTI, stamped white pigment ink and then embossed with white embossing powder. The same was done with the snowflake. And what snowflake is complete without a little bling? HA!

The cards at this point are somewhat incomplete, as I plan to us my new
JustRite Monogram Self-Inking Stamper Kit 1 5/8" that I recently won as blog candy on Lisa Somerville's blog, Splendferous Creations. So, just as soon as it arrives, I'll put the finishing touches on this Christmas gift and I'll have one more gift completed.

This project also fills one of my December Design Team requirements for the Paper Craft Planet. Our submissions this month will focus on Holiday/Giving, so if you are need of inspiration check out the Holiday Album.
I leave you with a little thought for the day: Though no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending. Leave your troubles behind and from this moment forward because the YOU you want to be. Until next time - have a fantastic day!

Stuff I Used: Stamps:
Borders & Corner (Circle) PTI, Snowfall, Paper Tray; Papers: Ski Slope (SU!), Baja Breeze, Real Red, Stamper's Select White; Inks: Whisper White Craft Ink, Real Red; Other Stuff: Mega & Giga Scallope Circle Punch, Giga Snowflake Punch, 1" & 1-1/4" circle punch, Silver Elastic cord, Wide Organza Ribbon (SU), Double Stitched Baja Breeze Ribbon, Martha Steward Lacey Border Punch.

TLC197 Speckled "GREEN" Background

If you are like me, you would rather craft than clean. Yep, I admit it...I'll take crafting over cleaning any day of the week. Who's with me? WOW - look at all those hands....lol

Today's technique on the TLC on Splitcoast uses a cleaning solution many of us have (but try not to use, because that would mean we are cleaning and not crafting) as a way to help create a unique and one-of-a-kind background. So, grab your Simple Green cleaner and get on over the the TLC for some fun.

I created my blue background paper by inking up my sponge brayer with the Spectrum pad and covering the glossy cardstock. Then with the Simple Green in my mini-mister, spritzed the paper leaving behind this wonderful effect. I first learned about this technique from the Queen of Techniques, Pat Huntoon and her Technique Junkies Newsletter, which I have subscribed to for two or three years. The end results are very similar to the Salt Technique but without all the salt...just my Simple Green, which doesn't get used nearly as much as it should...at least for its intended purpose. LOL

I hope that you will give this technique a try, and after you do, send an e-mail to Pat and let her know how much you love it. I know I do!

Thanks for looking in today. 24 days till Christmas...do you know where your shopping list is - and more importantly, how much is left to buy???

Stuff I Used: Stamps: Warm & Cozy Christmas (GinaK Designs); Papers: Glossy Cardstock, Stampers Select White; Inks: Brilliant Blue, Blue Frost Spectrum Pad, Archival Ink-Jet Black; Other Stuff: Simple Green Cleaner, Fine Spritzer Bottle (Ranger) Snowflake Embossing Folder (Cuttlebug), Copic Markers, Labels Two Nestabilities, Double Ended Tags (Spellbinders), Foam Brayer, Rhinestone Gems (Hero Arts), 1/8" Sticky Tape, Silver Glitter (Sally's) Rhinestone Brads (Making Memories), White Fun Flock, Quicky Glue Pen.
